Web monitoring: How the SNCF hunts down rumours

Article from the Journal Du Net by Anne-Laure Beranger : October 10, 2006

"The software needed to meet very precise specifications: it had to be quick and easy to install without requiring any change to the existing information system, it had to be easy to use on a day-to-day basis and fully autonomous, as the SNCF did not wish to resort to consulting services in this field. After some quick market research, Dimitri Granger, in charge of monitoring within the SNCF, chose the KB Crawl software published by KB Intelligence."

Thierry Dreyfus, Technological and Regulation Monitoring Manager, Bostik

"KB Crawl has many functions: implementing monitoring schedules, configuring forms and filters. Moreover, when a website is analyzed, the software can display a tree view of the pages that are the subject of a keyword alert. (...) Overall, the results are very good. Over a short period of time (less than a year), using tools that are well suited, flexible, inexpensive yet powerful, has enabled us to implement a monitoring system providing relevant results that allow our managers to keep up-to-date with the evolution of competition and markets." »

Michel Husser, Consultant, ADIT (Agency for the Dissemination of Technological Information)

Using KB Crawl to extract new articles relating to "France Telecom" shares on the Boursorama website.

« Performing a broad search using the generic website address boursorama.com returned 677 pages in 21 minutes with results that were of poor quality (numerous pages of links, for instance). This took up a lot of computer time and the database was unnecessarily loaded with pages of no interest.

Performing the same search on pages linked to the address: boursorama.com/infos/actualites/actu_societes _code.phtml?symbole=1rPFTE, which is the page containing all news about France Telecom shares, took 4 min 40 sec and returned 119 pages. After further filtering to get rid of unwanted pages, KB Crawl retrieved 26 relevant pages containing all the news available on France Telecom in just 33 seconds..."
